Procurement/Sourcing Specialist — Fire & Safety
Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking a Product Sourcing Specialist to identify, evaluate, and onboard manufacturers and suppliers of electrical components, lighting systems, and fire & life safety equipment. This role sits at the intersection of technical product knowledge and supply chain management: you will assess factory capability, verify certifications, negotiate commercial terms, and work closely with engineering and compliance teams to ensure every sourced product meets both project specifications and regulatory approval requirements before it reaches our catalogue or a customer's site.
Key Responsibilities •
Identify, evaluate, and qualify manufacturers and suppliers of electrical components, lighting fixtures/luminaires and control systems, and fire detection/suppression equipment (panels, detectors, sprinklers, clean-agent suppression, fire pumps, dampers). • Verify supplier and product certifications — ISO 9001, UL, FM, CE, EN 54 — and confirm alignment with NFPA 72/13 and applicable local AHJ/Civil Defense approval requirements before any supplier is onboarded. • Lead the RFQ/RFP process for new product lines, benchmarking pricing, MOQs, lead times, and warranty terms across competing suppliers. • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and contracts to secure competitive costs without compromising quality or compliance standards. • Partner with engineering and compliance teams to validate technical specifications, datasheets, and test reports prior to supplier or product approval. • Conduct factory audits — in person or via third-party inspection — to assess production capability, quality control processes, and documentation completeness. • Manage the full supplier lifecycle: onboarding, performance scorecards, non-conformance resolution, and offboarding. • Monitor market pricing, competitor product offerings, and emerging technologies across ELV, lighting, and fire & life safety categories to inform sourcing strategy. • Maintain an accurate supplier and product database, including certification expiry dates, cost history, and compliance status. • Drive cost-reduction initiatives through alternate sourcing, supplier consolidation, and contract renegotiation. Required Qualifications. • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field. •
3+ years of sourcing/procurement experience within electrical, lighting, or fire & life safety product categories. • Working knowledge of relevant compliance frameworks: UL, FM, CE, EN 54, NFPA 72/13, and regional AHJ/Civil Defense approval processes. • Demonstrated experience negotiating with manufacturers, running RFQ/RFP processes, and managing supplier contracts. • Ability to read and evaluate technical datasheets, test reports, and certification documents without engineering sign-off for initial screening. • Strong analytical and negotiation skills with close attention to compliance detail. Preferred - Experience sourcing from overseas manufacturers (e.g., China, Southeast Asia), including factory audits and logistics/import coordination. - Familiarity with ERP/procurement software (SAP, Oracle, or similar). - Existing supplier network within the electrical, lighting, or fire protection industries.
